DIFFICULT POSITION

,FOXTON HARBOR BOARD The difficult position in which the t'oxton Harbor Board lias been placed, first through the wreck of its trading vessel, and then by the purchase of a vessel which, on account of its draught, could never enter Foxton fully loaded, was explained ta the Harbor Board’s Conference at Auckland bv Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., chairman of the Foxton Harbor Board Mr. Linklater moved that boards operating in coastal transportation be empowered to raise a certain sum for the purchase of suitable vessels for their respective trades. He explained that the Foxton board urgently required assistance in financing the purchase of a new vessel. Mr. J. A. Nash, Ivf.P., representing the Foxton hoard, in supporting the motion said that unless something was done in the direction the port of Foxton would have to close, and that would not be desirable. The board’s only liability was a loan of £I6,(XX). Mr. G. Mitchell, Wellington, supported the remit. He said the Foxton board bad stepped in to run the vessel when private enterprise would not undertake it. The remit was adopted.
