EARL OF DURHAM DEAD
LAMBTON TWINS RECALLED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received February 1, 3 p.m.) LONDON, January 31. The Earl of Durham’s death recalls the details of the Lambton twins. The last Karl was born a- few seconds before the deceased. A blue ribbon was tied to bis waist to assure the elder succeeding the title, the twins being almost indistinguishable in appearance. They joined the Guards the same day, one in the morning and the other in the evening, and became known as “Morning Star” and “Evening Star.”
The third and fourth Earls of Durham were born on June 19, 1855, the former succeeding to the title on the death of his father in 1879. When he died towards the end <*f last year the earldom passed to his twin brother, then the Hon. Frederick Lambton. The latter, after serving for some years with the Coldstream Guards, entered political life, sitting in the House of Commons intermittently between 1830 and 1910. He is succeeded by bis son. Captain John Lambton.
