DUNEDIN RACES

ROYAL SAXON'S SUCCESS

(Special to the Herald.l DUNEDIN, this day

Rotor was withdrawn from the St. Andrew's Handicap on account of the hard going, and in a really good betting race Queen Balboa started favorite, with Battle Colors, the outsider of the quartette, with a chance on paper. Royal .Saxon made all the running, with the assistance of Money Mine, with others close up except Battle Colors, who was running last with a gap of about three lengths between him and the rest of the field. Money Mine dropped back and Gay Sonnctt. went up to the leader when approaching the home turn. Battle Colors ran into third place when .straightening for home, and Gay Sonnett challenged Royal Saxon at the distance, but the latter shook her off and came on to beat Battle Colors by nearly two lengths. Queen Balboa finished a length behind, third, a nose in front of Gay .Sonnett. Battle Colors ran a good race, lint Ifoyal Saxon proved too good for the Riecarton horse, who was attempting to concede 91b. Royal Saxon has won five races this season, and is not-fit the end of his successes, as he is a very solid customer from six furlongs to a mile. He is five years old, b> Saxby, whose early death is now recognised as a great loss to the breeding industry in this part of the Dominion.
