SULPHUR DUSTING- METHOD ' EFFECTIVE ' '**• " OTTAWA, Nov. 21. Sulphur-dusting experiments, conducted during the past summer in grain fields in Canada, have established beyond a doubt the effectiveness of this method of cereal rust control, a report issued on Tuesday by the, Federal Department of Agriculture said. A field trial in South Manitoba, using a horse-drawn duster, ' netted the farmer £2 10s an acre from the operation by' increasing "tlie yield and improving the grade of the dusted crop. Airplane dusting, the report added, also proved satisfactory, but further experiment by this 'method will be made to ascertain the cost. Twenty-six different; forms of rust spores have been traced by tire investigators and, according to the. report, none of jhe existing wheat varieties are resistant; to anything likg this number of rust forms; Studies regarding the source and spread of stem rusf. in Western Canada 'indicate that earliest spring infections are due to rust spores Which are carried in the air from the south. While, the report does not divulge the ollicial results of this yonr’.'s tests with the new Reward variety of wheat, it is pointed out that more than ;;-)() farmers experimented with the seed to determine its rust-resist apt and commercial qualities.
