WONDERFUL JEWELS

EX-SULTAN'S COLLECTION REPORTED £5,000,000 DEAL (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Pi-ess Assn.) I United Service.) LONDON, Dee. 12. \ The Daily News' Constantinople correspondent states that a syndicate of London capitalists has ent< red into a bargain with the Turkish Government, to purchase the ex-Sultan's jewels except those of historic interest. The, price mentioned is £5,000,000.

It is a wonderful collection, theaccumulation of centuries, and was once valued at £360,000,000, which, generally, is regarded as exaggerated.

The most valuable items are the throne of the Shah Ismail; ot'Persia, the jewelled dagger of Mahomet the Conqueror, and the jewelled sword of Constantine, Emperor of Byzantium. The Turkish Government in 1927 commissioned a Swiss jeweller to value the collection. He said the task was impossible. In an underground vault he found tray upon tray piled with' mixed, loose stones of unbelievable size.

It was recently rumored that Kemal intended to sell the jewels-to improve the Turkish finances. A Turkish firm then valued a portion at £20,000,000.
