There has been a regular round of bridge parties lately, one of the largest being tnal given by Sergeant and Mrs. Carroll at police headquarters, the guests including Mr. and Mrs. Lumsden, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Carver, Mr. and Mrs. (ten. Oates, Mr. and Mrs. Hockley, Mr. anil Mrs. Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Doig, Mr. and Mrs. Garnbriil, Mostiames Angus and Steed, Misses ( fites, Burdett (2), Cusworth, Grant, Messrs. Mirfin, Bropliy, and McWilliams.

Another bright party was given by Airs. Grant at Waima, when a cinematograph display was given by Mr. Mirfin, the guests subsequently dancing to wireless and gramophone music, a tasty supper was partaken of.

Mrs. !!. E. Gambrill was another recent hostess, when bridge was played at her fiome at Mangabauini, the guest of honor being Miss Nancy Hooper, of Gisborne. GOLF CLUB BALL

(Tne of the outstanding ftocial functions at Tokoina.ru Bay is the annual ball of the Golf Club, and this year’s ball was a notable success from every viewpoint.

The committee worked hard to emulate, and if possible to surpass, the decorative scheme of previous years, and their efforts must have been well rewarded by the expressions of appreciation when the guests viewed the Te Puka 1I&11 prior to the commencement of dancing. The color scheme in the main hall was a combination of orange and lemon, with « delicate shade of pink intermingled, (large sunflowers gyving an original touch, the whole producing a delightful effect of soft tones. The stage, where supper was 'set, was screened from the hall by bamboo greenery, (the supper tables Iboking very attractive with crystal vases of yellow jonquils, with asparagus fern. Softly lighted with candles in brass sticks, carrying ofange shades, the effect was delightful, blackbirds on the overhead shades arid orange sweet baskets adding to the toneful scene.

The floor was in excellent order, and to the music of the Radio Jazz Orchestra a largo number of dancers en joyed themselves thoroughly until the small hours, after it. supper to tempt, the palate of both the younger and more, sedate patrons. .A number of country folk attend cd in addition to local residents, parties coining from Ruatoria, Waipiro, Tolaga Bav and Gisborne.

The many beautiful dresses worn by the ladies make it, a difficult task to adequately describe them, but among those, who caught the eye were: Airs. E. R. Grant, black crepe-do-cliine lace; Airs. Gnmbrill, white georgette made .with uneven hem line, handsome black shawl; Mrs. Todd, midnight blue seqiiined frock; Mrs. K. Runcimaii, black crepe-de-chine with rose-pink shawl; Airs. Moore, pale Mae crepe-de-chine; Airs. Hockley, peach georgette; Mrs. Bruce, creme georgette; Airs. AlcEnteer, pale blue taffeta; Mrs. Steed, black crepe-de-chine with pretty shoulder posy; Airs. Pufflett, black marocain; Airs. F. Thompson, black crepe-de-chine; Miss C. (lutes, pale green crepe-de-chine and beautiful shawl in same tone; Miss Gaddum (Gisborne), royal blue georgette; Miss Jackson, paje blue crepe-de-chine; Miss McKay, cerise georgette; Miss Runciman, biege georgette; Aliss K. Burdett, picture frock of black taffeta, with deep, hem of transparent silver lace; Aliss B. Burdett, very pretty frock of apple green georgette with uneven horn line; Aliss B. Grant, shell-pink taffeta frock and beautiful bine panne velvet cape; Aliss Angus, pink georgette; Miss Pepper, cerise georgette. Among the gentlemen present were Messrs. Kenny, Soinerfield, Mi Win. Holley er, Brophy, Carev, G. Oates, Huddlcstonc, Murphy (2), N. A.
