(Herald CorresponUcnt.) In the ladies' department of the hockey games on Saturday Sports Club, playing at Xuluika, scored a win over the latter by six to nil. Tho goals were notched as follows: Miss Irma W'ilson (3), Misses Stewart, R. d'ones and R. Gillies one each. Waipapa defeated Waiau by a similar score. Messrs. C. Burkenshaw and C. Prior were tho referees. The Ruakituri men came to town, but their •intended opponents failed to put in ah appearance. The curtain-raiser to the Napier-Hast-ings v. Wairoa match on Saturday was that of Old. Boys v. Te Reinga, which was won by ttfie former team by three to nil. Earlier in the day tho Nolan Knock-out Cup was decided, Whakaki, 17, defeating Convent, 0; Wairoa Primary, 15, beat Frasertown, 6. Mr. Seebeck was the referee. In the final, Whakaki won by 14 to 3. Mr. B. Dinnan was the referee.

The July court sitting has. again been postponed till Friday. At the Police Court yesterday a (first offender for drunkenness was fined 10s.

There are indications that earjy spring is likely to burst upon us soon. Many trees which have scarcely yet lost last season's leaves are already about to burst into leaf, including the willows. Fruit tree buds in some sections are showing color. The Masonic Hall was well filled on Friday night on the occasion of a social tendered: to Miss Pearl Mayo, who is shortly to be married to Mr. Les. Kendrew. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing and competitions. Miss Mayo was the recipient of a large number of presents, and with them went the good wishes of tho large company. Mr. Kendrew made a suitable response. Colonel Carmichael, of the Salvation Army, is visiting Wairoa for a function this week. —Mrs. Grout and her daughter, Miss Sylvia. Grout, are on a visit to Christchurch.—Mr. M. Redmond is in Wellington, visiting his parents, who at present 'are ill.—Mr. W. Drysdale, and the Misses Drysdale, of Marumaru, are leaving the district shortly, and on Saturday night they were fare-welled at a social and dance at Mr. Bayly's woolshed, Opouiti, During one of the intervals in the dancing Mr. W. J. Hill presented Mr. Drysdale with a travelling rug and a tobacco jar, and tho ladies with a cheoue. Speeches were made bv Messrs. Hill, T. Bvrne, A. Sinclair, and D. Evans, and Mr. Drysdale replied.
