NIGHTINGALE IN N.Z.

When the carillon was broadcast from Sydney University not long ago, the birds could be heard plainly as they hopped around the microphone. Several attempts have been made in England to broadcast the song 6f the nightingale, and recently one of these was received by a listener in Wellington, N.Z., Mr. '.I. J. Moid. The transmission was from Che 8.8. C. shortwave station'oSW, and the song was heard quite loudly and dearly on a three-valve set. Naturally, on account of the impossibility of placing the microphone near the birds, broadcasts of this sort are always comparatively weak. Mr. .). .J. Reid believes that he is the tirst New Zealander to hear such a romantic song as that of the English nightingale in his own land.
