UNDER NEW CONTROL

GISBORNE TECHNICAL SCHOOL The 'Gisborne School Committee will control in future the Gisborne Technical School, as the result of a decision reached by the ffawke's Bay Education Hoard at its monthly meeting in Napier on Friday. At the previous meeting the board received a request from Gisborne for the appointment of a board of governors to control the technical school, with ia view to extending its sphere of activity, and the matter was referred 'to the. Education Department for its approval. In a letter in reply, the department stated that it agreed that there shoulld be room for considerable expansion of the work of technical education in Gisborne, and that it would be in the, interests of the classes if a local body took over the control. The department suggested in this connection that the Gisborne High School Board was well placed for the work, and it would view with favor the transfer of the classes from the Education Board to the High School Board, provided that suitable arrangements could be made for continuing to use the present accommodation for the classes. The department- was not in favor of the establishment, of an additional educational body in Gisborne for the purpose of managing the technical classes. The board resolved to appoint the Gisborne School Committee to control technical •education in Gisborne, with the consent of the committee.
