WORLD'S DAIRYING

THE COMING CONFERENCE WILL N.Z. BE REPRESENTED? (Specia' 1 to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. The necessity for tho. New Zealand Government appointing a representative to attend the world s dairy congress in England was emphasised by Mr. A. A. Thornton, until recently chief dairy produce grader in Auckland. In a private letter to Mr. Thornton, Mr. J. A. Ruddiek, the chief dairy commissioner of the Department of Agriculture •in Canada-, said he was leaving for England in June 'as the Canadian Government's official representative at the forthcoming dairy congress. At the time of writing he'had no information as to who was to represent New Zealand. Concern was expressed by Mr. Thornton lest the Department of Agriculture should fail to send a representative to the conference.' He recalled that when the last important, conference was held in America the fact that practically every country in the world except New Zealand was represented occasioned considorabl adverse comment among the dairying industries of the Dominion. That Mr. W. G. Ki Wright-, of Wellington, had been appointed to represent the Dairy Factory Managers" Association was 'beside the point, said Mr. Thornton. At such an important conference the Government .should be officially represented in order that the latest information- would be directly available for officers of the Dairy Division, and the guidance of the department^ " I may be speaking too soon," added Mr. 'Thornton. " but the time is getting short, and I have not heard the question of a New Zealand official representation raised."
