LARGE SUM INVOLVED
ALLEGED RINGING-IN (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. William McCarthy, 36, who was arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged ringing-in of a trotting horse in Australia was charged in the Police Court that at- Sydney together with AY. Mathieson, ha did conspire to cheat and defraud ttie Richmond and New South Wales Trotting Club, Victoria Trotting and Racing Association, and the West Australia Trotting Association of large sums of money at Sydney between January 21, 1927, and June 1 1927, an offence punishable by imprisonment for more than a year in New South Wales. Mu asking for a remand Chief-Detec-tive Cummings asked in yiew of the serious nature of the charges hail ho substantial. Bail was granted in the sum of £2OO, the accused to report daily to the police.
