OBITUARY
MR. ALFRED THOMAS LANGFORD One of the most widely-known and highly-respected residents of the Winchester district, Canterbury, Mr. Alfred Thomas Langford, passed away on dune 12. at Ins residence, at the age of 71 years. The late Mr. Langford war. born at. Dungate, Cambridgeshire, in 1856, and arrived m Christchurch 45 years ago. He was m the. employment of the 'late Him. K. C. J, -Stevens for 26 years. Leaving t'lirislelumdi 19 years ago, lie went to Winchester with his wile and' daughter and his youngest son. He went into business as a .storekeeper, retiring about- four years, ago in favor of liis son; Air. T. It. Langford.
The deceased gentleman took a grehl interest in the welfare of Winchester. Ho was a member of the Domain Board, the Library, and was also connected with several sporting bodies. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. J. S. Lee, of Temuka, and four sons, .Messrs. A. C. Langford, (Gisborne), H. 4". Langford (Kaknia), T. H. Langford (Winchester), and E. H. Langford (Dunedin). There was a very large attendance at tiie late Air. Langford’s funeral. The cortege was the longest seen in Winchester. The vicar, the Rev. G. W. Watson, conducted a service at the deceased’s late residence, arid afterwards at- the graveside, where a. large concourse of people had gathered to pay their last respects. The pall-hearers were Messrs. Arthur, Harry, Bert and Ernie (sons of the deceased).
