ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

GISBORNE ASSOCIATION 'there was a large attendance of members and representatives from the various sports bodies at a meeting of the Oisborne branch of the St. John Ambulance Association on Thursday evening, Mr. A. Thomson, presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Miss Gordon, Mrs. W. IS. Goftc (Women's National Reserve), and Miss ISmallbone (Y.W.C.A.). the subcommittee appointed at the previous meeting reported upon its activity in the obtaining of a suitable room lor training purposes and the organisation of the nursing division. On behalf of the .sub-committee, the secretary, Mr. W. K. B. Froggatt, stated that arrangements had been completed for the registration of the. nursing division at headquarters. The matter of renting a room had also been finalised, and on his request the general committee expressed its full approval of the arrangements made. It was resolved that the ladies' firstaid class be commenced on Wednesday, June 29, and Dr. VV. A. Bowie was appointed lecturer. The first meeting of the nursing division and the executive will be held on Thursday, July 7, when Dr. I. Wise will take over her duties as lady superintendent, and the appointment of- her assistant officers will be dealt with.

A suggestion that the brigade and nursing division should be made selfsupporting apart from the association, as was successfully carried out in other centres, was made by the secretary, who remarked that this meant that all donations received would' gu direct to the ..brigade and nursing division, and a small percentage of the donations would he retained by the association to cover working expenses, tie also stated that, it' the association would agree to this proposal a suitable letter, would be sent, to all public bodies, sports cluhs, welfare societies, and racing cluhs, ask irig each to make an annual donation, so that the brigade and nursing division would be assured of sufficient funds in order to carry out their work in an efficient manner. /

Parker, it was decided that the patter be held over until the next meeting, and that the secretary write to the centre and obtain all information as to the successful arrangement of the brigade and nursing division' being carried on as separate units. Do aiso suggested that at the next meeting the secretary should submit a financial statement showing the position of the association, and also a list of all donations received since the association commenced its activities,

It was decided that the mouthy meetings of the association should be held on .the last Thursday in each mouth, and that the secretary write to all delegates to that effect. The chairman stated Chat the men's first aid class would commence on July 15, and in the meantime the new members enrolled would he given practical work with the ambulance brigade
