RUN OVER BY TRAINS

(Per Press Association.) WHANOAREI, last night

A tragic discovery was made by a railway employee at the Whakaparau crossing at 6 a.m. to-day, when a decapitated body was found lying alongside the railway, with the head some distance away. The subject of the tragedy was soon identified as Albert Neazer, storekeeper, of Maungaturoto. The late Mr. Neazer was 60 years of age, married, and was well-known in the district. An inquest will bo held before Mr. Thealey, coroner, to-morrow morning. It is supposed that deceased met his death by being run over by the midnight train from Auckland, which was the last train over that section of the line.

DUNEDIN, last night

At an incjiiest regarding the circumstances of the deatli of Jane Finlay Ronnie, who was run over, by a train yesterday afternoon, the driver of the train stated that he had not seen anything in front of the train, though ho was keeping a close watch, but.he felt an unusual movement of the engine. It was stated that portions of the body had been dragged 40 yards. The inquest was adjourned the fireman's evidence might be taken.

BABY DIES FROM' BURNS,

NELSON, last night

Distressing circumstances were associated with an accident which terminated fatally to the one-yer-old child of Felix Edward Harman, of Mangarata, in the Murchison district. After bathing the child, the mother left, him in his pen while she went to an adjoining room to (ill his bottle and light a kerosene lamp. On returning, the child, still in his pen, commenced to come towards his mother, and in doing so pushed the chair, which struck Mis. Harman's arm, knocking the lamp out of her hand. The lamp exploded, and Mrs. Harman put a piece of blanket over it and threw it outside. On returning she found the baby's nightdress on fire. The flames were extinguished, when it was found that the child was badly burned. The child was brought in to Nelson Hospital, but died on the steps of the institution. At the inquest a verdict was returned that, death was due to shock from hums. A rider was added that in the opinion .f the coroner, Mr. K. .1. Scantlobury. it was unwise for the child to have been removed from Murchison to Nelson.

MOTOR CYCLIST COLLIDES WITH . TRAIN.

DUNEDTN, hist night

A collision occurred between a motor cyclist, William Forsyth, of North Taievi, and the Oivtrani branch train at (he factory mad crossing at Mosgiel about 4.30 o'clock to-night. Tin. man was severely injured, one of his legs being broken, and he suffered slight concussion of the brain. lie was attended to by a doctor and later removed to Dunedin Hospital. The motor cycle was damaged.
