Though an extensive campaign against small birds is essential at the presentmoment, it is stated in the South that it is far from desirable that they should be attacked so thoroughtly that they are exterminated. The stock inspector at Ashbnrton stated that such a position arose many years ago in Prance, where the small birds were almost exterminated. So serious did the ravages of grabs and blight become immediately following the slaughter, that the country had to be restocked with small birds' bf various kinds,.
