In the House of Commons on the closing stages o? the third reading of tin; 'trade Union Bill, destructive opposition amendments were successively rejected, the voting being on party lines Mr J. Maxton hotly assailed the Attorney-Oeneral as 'a political blackguard ami liar." The Speaker demanded the withdrawal of the remarks, Mr Maxton said : ''[ have heard the word hurled across the floor a dozen tunes to-day." 'the Speaker: "If you charge the At-torney-Oeneral with inaccuracy thai is common enough, but the word liar must not be flung across,the House.'' Mr. Maxton: 'ft am charging him with worse than inaccuracy.'' The Speaker: I call upon you to withdraw from the rest of the debate. Mr. .Maxton sat" motionless, and the Speaker appealed to him lo respect his authority. Mr. Maxton: "That is nol the issue." The Speaker "named" Mr. Maxton and Mr. Winston Churchill's motion for his suspension was carried bv 146 votes to 73.
Mr. Maxton walked out amid Labour cheers.
