OBITUARY
MRS. W. STEVENS Advice has been received from Feilding of the death of Mrs. W. Stevens. The deceased lady, who was known to many friends in the Gisborne and Ran gitikei districts, had attained the remarkable age of % years. Born in Rent, England, she came out to New Zealand with her husband, tho late Mr 1). Stevens, about b2 or 63 years ago, in the ship Elsigne. They settled in the Bangitifcei district, and were on Turikiha, near Bulls, for many years. Her husband pre-deceased her at Bongotea about 27» years ago. Mrs. Stevens came to Uishorne about lb years ago and resided with her relatives until five y*»ars ago, when she returned to Feildmg. Despite her advanced years she enjoyed good health and retained her faculties. She was of a kindly disposition and was much loved by all her friends. Of a family of 10 only two survive her —Mrs. V. Gray, of Feilding. and Mrs. Roderick, junr., of Olrmond road. The late Airs. A. Hawes, of Gisborne, was also a daughter.
Expressions of gratitude for the sympathy extended to her have been received in Gisborne from the widow of the late Mr. A. B. Wheat, who was attached to Taranaki Oilfields, Ltd., in this district, and who was killed in a motoring accident at Tokomaru. Bay some months ago. Mrs. Wheat, who is a resident in Los Angeles, writes that in his letters home her late husband many times mentioned with enthusiasm tile courtesy and hospitality extended to him by the people of New Zealand.
