A COMMUNITY BUS
STARTS IN GISBORNE Consequent on the Gisborne Borough Council taking over certain of the bus services in and around the town, a community bus made its appearance Ihis week on the route between Gisborne and Hexton and Gisborne and Kaitaratahi.
This bus is being run on the same lines as the two Auckland buses over which I here has just been litigation Mild no decision has yet been readied in ihis case, so that the exact legal position is still somewhat obscure.
The new Gisborne service differs in one- particular from those of Auckland, in that the Gisborne community bus has no collection box attached, the driver personally accepting donations. Whether this differs from the legal viewpoint, however, is not known.
With such systems, the donations of the passengers show a considerable variation on some occasions. .Most of the users of the community bus have so far contributed the usual fare, mil it is slated that on one trip yesterday, it patty travelled f° r about a third of the ordinary charge. Until the, true legal position is defined by the Auckland ease, the future of' the new Gisborne service will be uncertain. but in l,he meantime regular trips are by trig ma tic.
