The language used by stable boys was referred to in a discussion at a meeting of the Palmerstoii. North Borough Council, I when Mr. W. L. Gaisford aksed the council to reverse the decision by which a license had been refused 1 him to build stables on a large section near the West End school. Mr. Gaisford made application for a license recently, but the application was refused, Mr. Gaisford meanwhile having let a contract for the erection of the building. At this week's meeting Mr. H. Cooper addressed the council on behalf of Mr. Gaisford. He maintained that the building would be a handsome one, quite sanitary, and in accordance with principles of town-planning. Horses were delicate things, and no owner would keep them in unsanitary surroundings. The only reasonable objection was that the language used by stable boys would contaminate the children of the West End school, but Mr. Gaisford's boys were well trained 3nd would not prove a nuisance in any respect. ' Mr. Cooper had made inquiries and bad found that there was no town-planning hoard jn existence. Therefore, it was hardly correct to say the applicant could satisfy the board in regard to his claims, Mr.' Gaisford himself also addressed the council, speaking in the highest

terms of the stable boys, whom he would not jmind being amongst the family. They did not drink, and had no serious vices. Cr. M. A. Elliott gave notice of his intention to move at the next meeting of the Borough Council thai the previous decision bo reversed, thus closing the matter for the next two weeks.
