DERAILMENT OF TRAIN
SIX WAGGONS LEAVE LINE (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The afternoon goods train from Ckimaru was derailed on Saturday between Mihiwaka and Port Chalmers. Oh one of the many curves an empty waggon near the engine left the rails, dragging others with it, with the result, that the couplings broke and six waggons rolled down into a gully. The engine and tender remained on the line, also the back portion of the train, which included one carriage with the Anderson’s Bay school football team. Tlio through express from Christchurch, timed to arrive at 4.18 p.m., was held for four hours at Purakanui while t-lio line was cleared, and did not pull out for Invercargill till - 9.15 p.m. The cause of the derailment is unknown. A departmental inquiry will bo held this week.
