LOST TREASURE OUEST
GOLD INGOTS AND DIAMONDS
PARIS, April 23.
An expedition is now being organised at Rochefort to attempt recovery of treasure valued at several millions ol francs which has lain on the sea floor hear the Isle of Oleron singe 1820. Various unsuccessful attempts have already been made to locate the treasure, which consists ol a large quantity of diamonds and gold ingots, but it. is now believed that its exact position has been found. This lost fortune has an interesting history. During the French Revolution one (if tlie refugee nobles, Comte dp Saint Raul, established himself in America and was so successful in his enterprises that after 50 years of work lie had amassed an immense fortune. In 1820 he decided to return to France, and, having converted his property into gold and precious stones, lie chartered a special vessel, Le jeuno Henri, in Which lie had a. great safe specially constructed. The vessel, with 36 persons on board, made a good crossing until slm reached tiro Isle of Oleron, when during a violent storm she was driven on to" pic rocks between the island and the mainland and sank with the safe, the contents of which were to have made Comte de Saint Paul one of the richest men in France.
