50 YEARS’ MINISTRY
REV. VAN STAVERN HONORED
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, this day. The Rev. 11. Van Sts vein on .Saturday completed his fiftieth year of ministry as' Rabbi to the Jewish community in Wellington, which arranged a special testimonial to mark tho occasion. Owing, however, to a bereavement in the Van Stavern family this was presented privately. As a further recognition the Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, Dr. J. It. Hertz, has conferred on Mr. Van Stavern the title of “Morenii,” or teacher — teacher being the priests of Israel. This title is the highest) honor in the Hebrew faith, and confers upon (ho bearer the right to decide all matters of right oi wrong among his people.
