DOMESTIC’S DEATH DCOM
BURNS
(Per Press Association.) NAPIER, last night
A domestic, Evelyn Presling, 20, died this evening ns Hie result ot burns sustained when her clothing caught alight while she was engaged ia washing this morning. When deceased rushed into her mistress with Arr clothing ablaze, she was quickly wrapped in a hearthrug and the Haines suppressed, but not before the unfortunate girl was severely burned. She was taken to hospital in a serious condition and subsequently died.
CAUGHT BETWEEN TRUCKS
DUNEDIN, last night
Fred Scott, 41), married, who lives at 24 Forlum 1 road, was admitted to hospital this morning with his right leg injured. The man, who is employed in John Mill and Co.’s yard, was passing between two trucks when a shunting engine bumped one and he was jammed between them.
STATION COOK FOUND DEAD
NEW PLYMOUTH, last night
John Thompson, 58, employed as a cook at Piripiari station, Awakino, was found dead in his bed on Sunday, apparently asphyxiated by dense smoke which filled the room. An overturned lamp was found on the floor and some sacks were smouldering. It is surmised that the smoke and fumes from The lamp suffocated Thompson in his sleep.
HURT IN FALL FROM HO RSI
NELSON, last night
Graham Trewavzas, 7, sou of Harold Trewavas, ot t miikuri, met with a serious accident during the .week-end. The boy was riding a pony and when passing a gate the animal swerved, throwing the rider, apparently against one of the gateposts. The rider received an extensive fracture of the skull and an injured collarbone. Today his condition is still causing anxiety.
MOTOR CYCLIST IN COLLISION
CHRISTCHURCH .last night. A young man, Hugh 'Seales, of New Brighton, was seriously injured to-night as the result of a motor cycle which be was riding crashing into a motor lorry at the corner of Lonsdale street and the Esplanade. It. is stated that Seales was riding at 15 miles per hour and crashed head on. The lorry was unattended and, it is alleged, had no lights and was standing partly across the roadway. Scales was badly cut about the head, face and legs, and apparently lias sustained severe concussion. He was removed to Christchurch hospital.
