GLAND GRAFTING
APPLICATION TO .ANIMALS
EXPERIMENTS IN OTAGO
(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night
In Continental, countries considerable interest has been taken in the Voronolf system of grafting glands ill animals, .the French Government in particular paying special attention to sheep. The question of increasing the growth of wool has come in for consideration, but more recently the testicular grafting of stud stock Inis come under review, and .the French Government lias been responsible for some 3000 cases of this nature.
Quite recently Dr. Voronolf got into touch .with the New Zealand Fanners’ Union and Mr. W. P. Cameron, secretary of the Otago Provincial Union, discussed the matter with Dr. H. P. Picket-ill, Dean of the Dental Faculty at Otago University, who has been recognised sihee the war period as one of the pioneers in the grafting of human tissue.
Dr. Pickerill has expressed himself as agreeably surprised as to the possibilities of the process. He said he had been particularly struck with the rosults of Dr. Voronofll’s work on tho testicular grafting of animals, and he thinks there is a distinct and valuable field in preserving the potency of valuable stud, animals long beyond the usual age, or ©ringing back a lost potency In an aged animal. As the result of Mr. Cameron is interest in the matter some ‘experiments are to be carried out in testicular grafting, and at least two stud breeders in Otago are placing stud rams at Dr. Pickerill’s disposal as subjects for an ‘experiment which will be conducted on Thursday anil Friday of this week. Dr, 'Gill, of the Veterinary Division of the Department of Agriculture, is coming from Wellington to assist Dr. Pickerill with his experiments.
