The search for the missing man, Baines, was resumed this morning, between 30 and 40 persons being out with the .intention of searching as much of the eastern side of the mountain as possible.
A formal inquest opened at Kaponga this morning. After evidence of identification bad been given .file inquest was adjourned. Taylor and Allen, who are inmates of a private hospital at Hawera, passed a comfortable night, but ja re not able to be interviewed.
At noon none of the parties had returned. It is pointed out that tho action of Alien in cutting himself adrift did not precipitate the others down the mountainside a second time. Later.—
Ihe lifeless body of Bailies was found by a party of searchers this morning shortly after II o’clock. It was found approximately half a mile from the spot where Latham’s body was found. A relief party is being organised to convey tho body to Mountain House. _ Raines apparently had crawled on his hands and knees for some distance, and then had fallen over a bank of about 20ft.
