(P.A. Messages.) At the Auckland Supreme Court yeslerday, Stanley Keeble Clark, charged with setting lire to his home in Victoria Crescent, Newmarket, was found not guilty. In discharging accused, Mr. Justice Stringer warned him to keep away from the drink, if he came back again he was warned drink would not be taken as an excuse. Following a statement by the provincial president at the annual meeting of the provincial executive of the Farmers' Union at Masterton yesterday, the following resolution was passed: "The Wairarapa provincial executive learns with regret of the possibility of Mr. W. J. Poison resigning the Dominion presidency of the Farmers' Union, and expresses its -confidence in him and its hearty appreciation of his ability and performances on our behalf, and hopes tha.t he will see his way to again fill the position. In the Christchurch Police Court yesterday, a young woman, 22, whose name was suppressed, was remanded until Tuesday on a charge of theft of £2O lrom a firm of city merchants by whom she was employed as secretary. The police stated that the auditor's investigations of the books are expected to reveal defalcations amounting to £IBOO. Accused was remanded on bail of £IOO and one surety of £IOO, or two of £'so.

The fourth disagreement of a jury at the present Supreme Court sessions at Auckland took place last night, when the jury in the case of Robert Lamb, 40, a dealer, was charged with receiving six tons of stolen galvanised iron, valued at £lB6. Stanley Miller, 22, was found guilty of attempted rape on a girl of 17 in the Empire hotel right-of-way and remanded until Friday for sentence. A charge against a young man, Trevor Gardiner, of rape on a 20-year-old girl at Tcmpleton was adjourned until to day.

The interest aroused by the bankruptcy of William Lawlor Shiel, motor garage proprietor, Dunedin, was shown hy the fact that about 50 interested parties attended his meeting of creditors yesterday afternoon. The total debts amounted to £42,764 3s sd, the assets to £21,891 3s ?d, and the deficiency to £20.872 19s lOd. The. total amount of debts of creditors holding securities was given as £12,703 16s 6d, and of unsecured creditors as £24,763 6s lid. There were over 150 unsecured creditors. The bankrupt, in his statement, said that he had had to write £SOOO off on second-hand cars, and that he had lost £BOO on a shipment of tyres. Bankrupt was given a week in which to make an offer to the creditors. At the inquest on William Henry Forsythe, 38, single, who was found dead in his cell at the Christchurch station on Saturday with a handkerchief noose under his chin, the top of the noose being caught, on a wall plate, medical evidence indicated that the handkerchief round the neck caused constriction. Dr. Crooke thought it might have been due to accident, hut Dr. Pearson, pathologist at the Christchurch hospital, who conducted the post-mortem, expressed the opinion that the act was deliberate. The Coroner, Mr. Lawry, returned a verdict of .suicide by hanging.
