CHRISTMAS PARTY

j Members of the Gisborne Young | Women's Christian Association had an ! enjoyable "time- at ail old-fashioned! [Christmas party given in the YIW.O.A, rooms last evening to wind up the year's j activities. Numerous musical items" were given, and games and competitions provided much amusement. Supper was j served in tho lounge,'which was attractively decorated in blue and gold, and lighted candles, in brass sticks, were placed on the tables. The cafeteria was gaily decorated with streamers and Japanese lanterns, and one corner was arranged as a stage. Many of the girls arrived in dresses of early Victorian (fashion, which lent novelty to the occasion. Mrs. P. W. Riach, vice-presi-dent of the association, was the hostess. The following programme was contributed : Violin solos, Miss Q. Clare, "Cavaleria Rusticana," and "Because"; Eussian folk song, True Pals' Always Club, "Yuletide," and "Christmas Greetings"; recitations, Miss Peggy Lange, "Christmas Bells," and "A secret with Santa Claus"; songs, Miss G. Clare, "Pipes of Pan," and'Massenett's "Elegy"; English folk dances in costume, Inseparables section of the Girl Citizens; songs, Miss P. Cox, "In an Old-Fashioned Garden," and "Banjo Song"; part songs, hostel girls, "Holy Night," and "I Saw Three Ships Cbmo Sailing." The Aotearoa section of the Girl Citizens dramatised the story of the wise men coming from the east, this l item being much enjoyed. The items were pleasantly interspersed with games, and supper was then served in the lounge. During the evening Mrs. Riach extended greetings to the 'guests, and expressed thanks to tho performers, and to the members of the Citizens' Governing Body and the Inseparables section for- their work in connection with the decollations. Tho function was eoncTuded by the singing of "Aukl Lang Syne."
