GENEVA CONFERENCE
OPENING CONVERSATIONS FEANCE STILL SUSPICIOUS (Australian and N.2. Cable Association.! LONDON, Dec. 6. ' The opening pluses of the Geneva Conference were devoted to informal conversations between "" tho leaders, especially M. Briand and Dr. Stresemann, which are the first since the secret meeting at Thoiry. Mr. Renwick, representing the Daily Chronicle, says the iron of the old suspicions appears to have entered the French soul again, and even M. Briand admits that the work done at Thoiry is largely wrecked. It was based upon tho belief that France would do anything for money, but France's nnaneial position has so improved since then that M. Briand and Dr. Stresemann must begin again from Thoiry. The starting point of the bargain can only be achieved now if Germany yields to the Polish and Czecho-Slovakian demands that fuller frontier guarantees will be forthcoming than the Germans agreed to at Locarno.
