TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

LONDON 'BUS SYSTEM "SHOULD BR COPIED" FREMANTLE, Nov. 10. Mr. H. S. Crocker, hon. treasurer of the Motor Trades' Association of Sydney, who was accredited by the Government of Now South Wales to investigate traffic problems in South Africa and England, returned on hoard the Commonwealth liner Moreton Bay. Ho said his mission was to gal her information'likely to bo of assistance to tho New South Wales Government on such questions as one-way traffic, motor 'buses, and the parking of motor cars. The adoption of one-way traffic and the. gyratory filtration system in London had reduced traffic blocks at busy centres .from live minute congestions to delays of not longer than one minute. The control of traffic in London was in wonderful contrast, with the lack of control in Paris. In London the police control v lol the drivers, whilst in Paris the drivers' control led the police.

At tho invitation of the War Office he attended the trials at Ahlershot of cross-country heavy lorries, a class of vehicle which was coming largely into use in England where the tendency ■was to adopt lorries of from three to six tons capacity. British motor manufacturers wore working at high pressure, and new cars were going on to the roads in Britain at tho rate of 3700 per week. In his' opinion the Australian States should copy the London 'bus system. Whilst he was in London there wore three delegations there from America inquiring into the system. Whilst he was much impressed with the London 'bus system, Mr. Crocker was not prepared to say that trams should bo abolished even in the busiest of traffic centres.
