IN SAFE DEPOSIT
SOCIETY WOMAN'S THEFTS. FAINTED IN DOCK. LONDON, Nov. 18. Carried fainting from the dock, a beautiful society woman, Mrs. Lesly Gardiner, 34, wlio, according to counsel, had an almost, inexplicable desire to possess others' property, was sentenced to-day to six months' imprisonment for thefts from the Pall Mall Safe Deposit, where she was caught rifling suitcases. She also confessed to stealing a trunk containing £3OO worth of valuables. Mrs. Gardiner had been married to Lieutenant Holden, but she dissipated his fortune while he was serving at the war and then she divorced him.
Later she ingratiated herself with a wealthy Scottish family, who were now on tho verge of bankruptcy through her extravagance while she was in charge of their mansion.
For the defence it was explained that the losers of tho stolon property had been fully recompensed.
