A NAIVE PLEA

MAORI ACCUSED'S ADDRESS (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. The confidence of a jury was sought in rather an unorthodox manner by a Maori accused in the Supreme Court. He was addressing the jurymen at some length on his own behalf, and admitting that he had been in trouble before, he naively suggested that like him the members of the jury had done a numbei of things of which the court knew nothing. The suggestion, delivered in all seriousness, produced smiles in all parts of the court.
