FORCED LANDING
COBHAM'S ESCAPE ,"OH, FOR A SPANNER" LONDON, October 14. ■Sir Alan Cobhanrs short flight to Manchester nearly brought disaster to-day. A faulty sparking pkg forced! him to land at Nuneaton (Warwickshire), and in doing so ho just missed a cable carrying 6000 volts. He was late for the lunch given in his honor, arriving, at 3.30 p.m. in a freslfo machine, after having had to walk for miles to secure it. "Hullo, everybody. Sorry I'm late," he said on arrival.
All the same, Sir Alan was very annoyed. The trouble could easily, have I e'en remedied with a spanner, but there was not one aboard, someone having forgotten to put the tool kit in, and none of those he borrowed from farmers and motorists would fit.
