Amid the noise and bustle of constructional activity hi many business, premises, the demolition of a small two-roomed shack attracted little if any attention, yet this wooden structure, tucked away behind modern business houses, was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, building in Invercargill. This but was built over 65 years ago hr the white set tier,-, for the convenience of Maoris visiting the town, a place where they could rest for a day or two before embarking on their homeward journey. In spite of its ago the timber was reported to have been in sound condition and doubtless would have remained so for a. few more years had not the extensive alterations and additions to business premises necessitated the unceremonial removal of this old land-mark.
