“THE OPTIMISTS”

BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT. The Optimists are certainly justified in the name they have taken ; they have a bright outlook on life which they weave into their performance m a manner such as to produce a delightful entertainment. The Optimists made their second appearance m Gisborne at tlie Opera House last, evening, presenting a- programme which was, clever, merry, ami bright from the opening horns to the musical extravaganza at, the conclusion. Each performer is an artist in his or her particular line, and it. is regrettable that the company did not receive better patronage, the audience last evening being a very small one. These who were present- at- last evening’s performance, however, had not long to wait before they became aware ot’ the excellence of the. entertainment, and the versatile performers, quickly making themselves popular with the audience, were given a splendid reception, numerous encores being demanded. Questionable “ humor ” was conspicuous by its absence, and the merriment was clean and wholesome throughout. Maui Stern, who is already well-known to Gisborne audiences; again proved himself to be a comedian of exceptional merit, and he headed a- troupe of laugh-ter-makers who kept the audience in a constant state of mirth. Miss Vet a Gilbert’s wonderful range and exquisite tone gave her immediate/ popularity with her hearers, and her vocal numbers created a furore, tlie audience demanding encores each time she appeared. Miss Gilbert was heard to advantage in duets with Francis Cornwall, who also gave much enjoyment with bis solo numbers. Stanley Hudson-Airtli was another comedian who never faded to bring a laugh, and Miss Peggy Peat did a great deal to ensure the succes---of the Gisborne season. Albert Carlisle is a baritone of much merit , whose items were received with pleased applause. The whole company co-operat-ed in many lively chorus numbers and sketches, and undoubtedly gave their audience a- most- enjoyable treat. The Optimists will make their final ■ appearance at the Opera House to-night, and intending patrons are assured that tlie entertainment will he evert brighter than tint provided last night.
