Coder, Conservative member of llie House of Commons for Leicester, in n striking article in the Empire Review, entitled, "Australia the Lone and Empty Land." says:— "While the political development of Australia along Radical lines has been most rapid, it is Radicalism of the Victorian era. Australia's cultural development lias lagged and is still more strongly Victorian than would be expected. The Victorian middle-class mind predominates alongside a highly developed democratic spirit." He also says:—"High tea and plush upholstered hotels together with a newspaperless and einemaless Sunday go hand in hand with almost a complete absence of class barriers and most advanced Labor legislation." Mr. Loder went to Australia doubting the wisdom of the "White Australia" policy, but is now convinced that it s-houhl bo given a full .and practical trial.
