STRICT EMBARGO SOUGHT
NEW ZEALAND POTATOES INSISTENT AUSTRALIANS (Received Sept, 30. 12 noon.) SYDNEY, Sept. 30. A deputation of local potato growers waited on the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Dunn, and asked for the prohibition of the importation of New Zealand potatoes. One delegate submitted a sample taken from 100 bags of New Zealand potatoes, and claimed that they were intended for seed, as they were 100 small for table use. A second delegate said that although a distributor was willing to giva an assurance that he would mot sell New Zealand potatoes for seed, a purchaser could do as he liked with them. The Minister, in reply, said that his department did not regard very seriously the probability of powdery scab spreading, but lie would make inquiries and discuss the matter with experts from the new viewpoint". He would make strong representations to tho Federal authorities for the prohibition of potatoes from New Zealand.
