FAILED TO SURVIVE
j AUCKLAND SEA LEOPARD j STRANGE SURROUNDINGS ; ' (Special to tbe Herald.) j AUCKLAND, this day. The sea leopard captured on the mudflats at Otahuhu last June, and afterwards added to the collection at the Auckland Zoological Gardens, has died. The sea leopard was fairly old, and as these animals do not, as a. rule, surYti.ve kong in .captivity unless talken young, it is surprising that it. lived so long. The capture of the animal at Otahuhu was attended by some excitement, j a.s it proved to be extremely active and 1 ferocious when approached, but was finally enmeshed in a rope net and carried to the zoo. > After a few weeks of fretting, it appeared to settle down to its new surroundings, and was comparatively' contented, according to the zoo authorities. The sea leopard was apparently in good health last Saturday, but- was found dead the following day.
