DAMAGES CLAIMED
ACTION AGAINST DOCTOR IMMIGRANT’S POSITION (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Before the Magistrate to-day Sydney James Calcraft, an X-ray worker, claimed £152, including £135 damages, from Dr. H. T. Thacker. Tho plaintiff said that while at Romford Institute, England, with a pernian cut job, getting in ' all £4 a week, UL Thacker told him to come, to Now Zealand, where he had a splendid X-ray plant and could double plaintiff’s salary. When plaintiff did arrive in New Zealand lie was stranded at Wellington for foil)' days, and later l)r. Thacker said he was' not, well enough to work, and sent him to his brother's farm to work as a* rdtiseabaul. The defendant, denied having promised plaintiff ;'i [iosition. lie was crossexamined at length, particularly on the strength of letters produced in court. The Magistrate awarded the plaintiff £6l and costs. He said Dr.’ Thacker’s evidence could not be relied upon.
