SERIOUS FLOODS
DAMAGE IN AMERICA 20 PERSONS DROWNED (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, Sept. 16. Drenching rains, bringing floods in many sections of the Middle West, have } caused over 12,000,000 dollars’ worth of | damage, and have resulted in the deaths | of at least twenty persons, I Kansas and Illinois have suffered most, 'seriously, the damage in each case being estimated at 5,000.000 dollars. Five fatalities occurred in each State, and the .trains over the whole area are delayed seven, or eight hours. .Many washouts ' have occurred. | Considerable property damage is also reported from Missouri, Nebraska, lowa, ■ Indiana, and Wisconsin, and each State has also suffered fatalities. Flood conditions are still menacing parts of Illinois, where the river is running bank high or overflowing.
