REDUCTIONS WANTED
NEW INSURANCE RATES
WORKERS' COMPENSATION
COMMITTEE'S INVESTIGATION
(Received .September 8, 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 7. The Parliamentary Labor caucus sub-committee, which lias been enquiring into the working of the workers' compensation insurance rates has reported in favor of a reduction'in tin* rates forthwith, by one-third, also a. review at the end of December, with a view to further reductions.
In the caso of certain rural and mining industries a still greater reduction is favored, and a number of the anomalies will also be removed. The com mittce recommends the establishment of a State monopoly of compensation business. It regards such action as necessary if the rates are to be. brought to bedrock level.
Probably legislation creating this monopoly will be introduced next session. It is also probable that, the sickness risk, as such, will be abolished, and this risk embodied in an all-embrac-ing Hat. rate.
