'FLU IN SAMOA

A MILD EPIDEMIC FUNCTIONS POSTPONED (Special lo the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. "A mild epidemic of influenza is going through .Samoa at the present time." writes the Herald's Apia correspondent. "No one seems to know how it started. American Samoa has had the complaint rather badly, and it is still bad in Tutuila. It was bad there before wo. had it in Upolu. We have got it now. and it is very general in both islands. All the flag-raising Day celebrations, and other functions were postponed so that the danger of a serious outbreak would be obviated. Some of our doctors have been seized by the epidemic. "Fortunately the attack lasts on an average only 48 hours, and on the . fourth day the patient is fit for work i| again, lii a few cases the sufferer had to go to bed for a week. No deaths have been reported from the epidemic. People have died, of course, but the rate is just normal. The excessive spell of dry weather is blamed for the sickness.

"The medical Department has been very active during the last few weeks, and every precaution has been taken to minimise the danger of a serious outbreak. No alarm is'felt, and the native confidence has been restored by seeing their people get better."'
