EVERY CONFIDENCE
\ SCHOOLMASTER'S LAPSE
COMMITTEE 'B VINDICATION
(Per Press Association.)
•AUCKLAND, last night. The ease of Mr. Alfred Charles Hook, the headmaster of the Mercer school, who was convicted at AUCKlaud, on .Saturday, of the theft of a pair of socks, was considered by the .Mercer School Committee last night. Mr. Hook was present and gave an explanation. The following resolution was carried: ''That the committee have every confidence in Mr. Hook, and are unanimously of the opinion that he is not guilty of the crime of which he was convicted. It, is considered that the proceedings were too hasty and that Mr. Hook was not given sufficient time or opportunity td defend himself, especially considering his state of health, which wase caused by war service, and his state of mind which such a charge would naturally cause. The committee trust thai the Education Hoard will give Air. Hook every possible consideration and reinstate h;m in his former position."
