HOTEL THIEF GAOLED
MOST IMPUDENT CRIME. ACCUSER BLAMES i)RJNK. (IVr Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night, Harold Vivian Oostfey, 29, alias Colden, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a wristlet watch, gold chain, diamond ring and £5 in cash, of a total value of £49. the property of Marion Watson Powell, at the Police Court today. Acting-Detective ITohbs said that, on Saturday, he made inquiries relative to the jewellery and money stolen from a bedroom at' tho Britomart hotel. On interviewing accused he found portion of the stolen property on him, while the balance was later found in Costlcy’s room.
Chief Detective Cummings said that about 4 p.m. on Saturday accused went' upstairs to the bedroom of the licensee and stole the articles, all of which had been recovered with the exception of £l ir cash. Cost lev had never born in trouble before and vas a, married man who was parted from his wife. The theft was most impudent.
The accused told the magistrate that he was under the influence of drink at the time of the theft. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
