PLOUGHING TESTS
EXPERIMENTS IN AFRICA Interesting ploughing tests have just boon concluded on, the Chnnlalane estate of Cotton Plantatfons. Ltd.. th,« statistics of which were verified by the Director of Agriculture. Five tractors took part, and each had to plough to a depth of at least seven inches on a, carefully surveyed area of 33 acres of virgin ground which was of uniform description and soil texture. The fuel and grease were
carefully measured and an observer was nominated by the' director. The inmild board ploughs gave the best results, but a disc showed the best time at one hour 17 minutes an acre. It did not, however, reach tho required depth. The lowest cost was .006 of a pennv per acre. The greatest depth ploughed was 9.12 inches. The cheapest fuel cost was 3s 11.03 d.
