INFLUENZA OUTBREAK.

PNEUMONIC CASES IN AUCKLAND. POSITION NOT SERIOUS. (Special to the Heiald. 1 AUCKLAND, this day. There has been a sudden increase in the number of notifications ot pneumonic influenza received by the Health Office. Two cases were reported from the suburbs and seven from the country yesterday. This made nine notifications for a single day, ns against ton for the whole of the year prior to yesterday. The position is not regarded as serious, however. What is really giving most trouble, is the usual epidemic of winter colds. These are severe this year, and usually have a touch of influenza allied to them. One drapery firm stated that although its employees came to work with red noses and hacking coughs their attendance was really above the average for this time of the year. In the schools colds are also noticeable, but no applications for closure have been received by the Education Board. Steps, of course, have been taken by the Health Department to guard against the contingency of an epidemic, and local bodies have organised their forces in case of an emergenev. This is not likely, however, and conditions in the city regarding influenza are not abnormal. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day.

Nine notifications of pneumonic influenza for the whole of the Auckland district were received yesterday, including seven from the country. Cambridge, To Kuiti. and Hamilton' notifications to data this week number thirteen.
