COUNTY ROADS.

WORK IN WAIAPU. Reporting to the last monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council, the engineer stated: .MAIN HIGHWAY. Construction: Concrete culvert, 48.1 M. peg —Preparations are being made to start this work. Sawmill bridge, •IS.PM peg.—This bridge will -be completed in a few days. Alakokomuka bridge, 53M. peg.—Wearing deck has been placed and approaches completed. More metal is required ’ on the approaches to make them passable .for winter’s traffic. .Metalling 72A1. to 711 M. 69ch. peg. —The crashing of stone for this work has been started, and about -6 chains, of bottom course and 4 chains of top course were carted out and laid before the weather broke. It depends on the weather during this month if more of this work will be completed or not. Kopuaroa bridge, No 3,76.9 M peg.—The work on this bridge is proceeding satisfactorily. Throe of the concrete piers have been completed and a start made on the fourth and last pi or. About three or four weeks will see this work completed. Jerusalem metalling, 77.75 AL —This work was completed early in the month. Metalling 79.70 M, ,80.31 M.—The laying and rolling of the top course would have been completed now if (lie weather had kept line. Kni-iitanga-Kakuriki road . formation. Bridge is nearing completion and most of (he format ion of box culverts car-ried-out. Slone for the concrete culvert will be carted as soon as the road is in a lit state. Maintenance: Maintenance generally is good, with \ the exception of those sections mentioned in last month’s report. DISTRICT ROADS. Anaura deviations, Nos. .1 and 2: Both of these have been completed. Waipiro-Kopuaroa deviation: Completed satisfactorily. Last- rains have put this road temporarily out of use. Mata-Wailahnin road: Completed satisfactorily. A further 20 chains of widening'has been let to the contractor on this road. This will complete the dray road into Air. Wickstocd’s boundary. Taknpau-Ihungia metalling: The contractor for this work made a start again after last meeting and has metalled about 45 chains of rmid. Waitekeo bridge approaches have been completed and top-dressed with cinders procured from the freezing works. Concrete culvert and approaches on Tuparoa road: A little further widening and filling is required to complete this. Rnatoria- l uparoa metalling: Nearly completed. _ Roto-kainuku-liuatoria road formation: A wood portion of this work has been ca rried out. Alaraehara east road: Completed satisfactorily. Matahiia road formation: Requires a little irimming up io complete. Matahiia road metal‘ling: About 20 chains of bottom course has been laid and spalled. Maintenance: Until the last rains the maintenance over the whole ot the district roads was good with the exception of the Pukotiti road, which has had no attention for the last four or live months, and pari of tne Taka-pau-lhungia road. With the Council's permission I intend starting willow planting shortly as a considerable amount
