M'UNTI LLY COUNC! Ij MEETING. (Special to the Herald.) WAIPIRO BAY. At the monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council, held at, Waipiro Bay, them were present Crs. A, W. Kirk (chairman), A. B. Williams, Win. Oates, 11. 11. I’aivlie, F. J. Williams. (X T. Williams, ,S. F. Burdett, and M. Hyland. Messrs. Nolan and Sheet advised the council as to the position in regard to the Tuparoa dumping shed. 1 ; also site for roadman’s cottage in Ahi-o-te-Atua. — Some discussion took place; as to the legalised and unlegalised roads in the county, and Or. F. J. Williams proposed that Messrs. Nolan and Bleed bo asked to advise as to the approximate cost of ascertaining which are and which are not legalised roads. —The motion was carried. The 'chairman of the TV Puia school committee wrote asking whether the council would form the road down to the school, and stating that the committee was prepared to remove; the manuka scrub off the road linn, provided they were allowed to have the wood for the school’s use.—Permission was granted. An application by Mr. W. Foden for an eating-house license was granted, subject to the approval of the health inspector. The Public Trustee wrote regretting that he could not entertain the council’s application for a loan of £2500, being part of the main road and bridge loan. — It was decided that all correspondence in reference to this loan be sent to ihe member for the district; and that he be authorised to deal with the matter. Messrs. Nolan andl Sheet advised regarding unpaid rates, and stated that valuations would have to he supplied for each separate block, otherwise the Court ’would not make orders. The chairman explained what ho had done in regard' to the outstanding native rates since last meeting.—lt was decided that the Valuation Department he asked to give the information in regard to the values of each separate block, especially in regard to Tokomaru B9F, The action of the chairman and engineer in accepting Ogden’s tender for boulder carting for the Matnhiia, road, and in lolling the contract for spalling, was confirmed. Confirmation was also given to the action of the chairman and engineer in letting the contract for carting metal for the Rotokautuku-Tikitiki road. It was decided that the engineer he instructed to have metal put on to the approaches to the Makokomulca bridge. In regard to metalling the TakapauIhungia, road, it was agreed that members of the council meet at Pungawhakairo and prospect the hill for metal. OR DIN ARY BUSIN ESS. It was decided to obtain Air. Knrauria’s permission to fence off a portion of the slip on tlie Matai hill and plant it with willows. CY. F. .1. Williams asked that the ends of the culverts on the Anaura road be protected \yitli rails, the work to he done by the .surfaceman. The engineer to attend to the matter. Mr. F. J. Williams was given permission to erect- a- gate across the road opposite- the sawmills. CV. O. T. Williams inquired what the council proposed to do in the matter of repairs lo the suspension bridge over the Mata, river.—The engineer was instructed to inspect- and report- as to what was required to he done To put it in good repair. It was decided to put a stop to all formation work on the Tapuwaeroa road until the spring. The chairman said that Mr. Reedy had informed him that the fencing of (he road through Puhunga was completed.—lt was agreed that the owners he paid for the cost of the material on the ground. The chairman advised that the Counties Conference would lake place in July, and desired to know whether councillors had any suggestions for remits. He. said he thought that- a remit, to endeavour to simplify the taking and closing of roads should come before the conference.—This was agreed to. The chairman’s appointment as the council’s representative to the Comities Conference was confirmed. The chairman explained what had taken place at the Highway Council meeting in regard to grant estimates and estimates of the main highway. Some discussion took place in regard to providing access lo the Mawhai block and the engineer was requested to meet Air. Pot-ne and inspect the route; and’ prepare an estimate of costs. It- was resolved that £IOCO. £ for £. grant be applied for to metal the Toko-matu-Tuakau road. It- was also decided to drop the grant, of £ 150 for the Waiau rood. Authority was given to the engineer to call for tenders to collect metal off tli(> Tokomaru and Waipiro beaches. Accounts -amounting to £9062 4s. 5(1 were passed for payment.
