INVITATION

Sir James Allen stales that the invitation to the Duke of York was entirely impromptu. Id was not suggested or inspired by the assumption that the Duke of York will probably open the .Federal Capital and therefore naturally suggested a v isit to New Zealand. The Duke of York’s prepared speech did not contain any reference to a visit lo Australia or New Zealand, but a single sentence, “I hope to visit New Zealand,’’ was interpolated.
