Mr. Jesse Steer has been elected chairman of the Grey Harbor Board for'the tenth consecutive term.
Mr. G. Wildish was unanimously reelected chairman of the Gisborne Fire Board at the annual mooting vesterdav.
Dr. Clark, schools medical officer for the Hawke’s Bay district, arrived in Gisborne this morning, and will spend next week visiting various Poverty Bay schools.
His Honor Mr. Justice Alpers, recently entered a private hospital in Wellington, and has undergone a surgical operation. It will probably be between two and three months before he resumes his seat on the Bench. ’
Eulogistic reference to thei work of the superintendent of the Gisborne Fire Brigade, Mr. J. Kane, was made at the annual meeting of the .Gisborne Fire Board yesterday. The chairman, Mr. G. Wildish, said that the brigade was doing splendid work, for which the efforts of the superintendent and the deputy-superintendent, Mr. A. Thomson, were largely responsible. Other members also spoke in appreciative terms of the work carried! out by these officials.
