POVERTY BAY EWES.
SOLI) AT ADDINGTON
MANY IN POOR CONDITION
That many of the ewes from Poverty Bay are in poor condition by the time they reach the Addington market, is shown by Die report of last week's Addington sale given in the Christcluirch Sun :—ln the past week or so there has been an easing in the entries of stock at the various sales, says the Sun, and though the yarding of North Island sheep at Addington was considerable this week, it showed' a falling-oflf compared with late sales. The offering of North Island sheep should have been .larger, for a large draft of ewes from one of the best known Poverty" Bay properties arrived too late for the sale. They were unshipped' at Lyttelton on Wednesday morning and will swell the entries next week. These ewes are from the back country, and usually arrive at A'ddim*ton, before this, but they have been held ■up. which is unfortunate for the vendors. They have been bred to Southdown rams. Lack of condition is what is preventing the great majority of the ewes selling at present on account of northern owners from bringing good prices. They all seem to be wanted, and many thousands are bought for sending down to Oftago and Southland, but • a large, number are so low in condition that it would be useless to turn the rams out with them now, and 1 the time is slipping by quickly in which such ewes could) be freshened up. Evidentlv the good prices for ewe iambs has not been lost sight of in the North Island, for a couple of trucks of this class were forward from the north. They, wero the ordinary North Island Romney-cross. loo.'-ii...
faded l as the result of the boat tnp, and had Been shorn early, though they carried a fair fleece. Buyers were not keen on them, and' the bidding stopped at 21s. Other very ordinary crossbreds sold at 25s to 26s'.
